So, just as I said I would, tonight's post shall be about my 'Brony Rant' on my thoughts and opinions on certain things in the Brony communities that I do not agree entirely with. I do respect everyone is entitled to their own opinion and views on the subject, but remember; these are just my thoughts and they may differ from yours. I don't mean to crush or hurt anyone's.
Brony; it's a term we all know and have identified ourselves
with. It speaks for itself, a My Little Pony fan that can be either
male or female. Bronies do not give in to the idea that it is solely
based on a single gender (ex. females only) and believe that instead, be you Colt or Filly, you may still enjoy it.
I,
myself, am a Brony and love my fellow Bronies. I myself enjoy the fact
that MLP franchise has grown over the years and has gain such a huge
popularity. Especially with G4's Friendship Is Magic series. But now, as
I have noticed in other Brony communities and groups, it seems not all
generations are equal or well appreciated, or even understood. And this,
my Bronies, is where my rant begins.
I will begin my rant with a few of my Pony Peeves:
1.
I dislike how some Bronies in the community claim themselves to be as
if they are the main characters in the show, example: "I am SO like Fluttershy/ Pinkie Pie/ Rainbow Dash!! I see A LOT of myself in them!! OFMG111!!!"
No,
no you are not. Do not even go there. It's one thing for you to say how
you have traits of a certain pony, but to say that you are just like
Pinkie Pie or Rainbow Dash..you are only ruining the image. You cannot
honestly believe you ARE Pinkie Pie just because you
randomly shout out "PURPLE HIPPOS" or "CUPCAKES" everywhere you go. Yes,
Pinkie is indeed random, but she isn't a retard. That's just like
saying you see a lot of Dash in yourself because you are competitive and
believe to be twenty percent cooler than everyone else. Have you looked
on over to the person next to you, lately?
I understand
traits and how each and everyone of us does have a bit of each of them
in us. I mean, if it was not for that, how else would we be interested
in the series?
2. Over dramatic "I just told my parents I am a BRONY"
comments. Uhm, well good for you. But you just made it seem like you
came out of the closet instead. You love a television show, that is
great! But there is seriously no need to get all hyped up and serious
over a children's series. But that line just makes it sound like a
hidden shame.
3. "G1 THROUGH G3 IS GEHHH AND IS TEH SUXORZ!11!!! G4 IS NOT TEH SUXORZZ11!!! FIM IS WHERE ITZ AT11!!"
Ever
since the coming of Gen 4 Friendship Is Magic (FIM for those that got
confused..) there have been multiple to way too many reasons for this
belief. Here, I shall separate and lay them all down for you:
"The artwork was was horrendous! No pony had their own personality! Worst voice acting and storylines!"
Granted
the first generation was not the best, but again, it was the FIRST. And
not only that, this was the kick off and it just happened to have began
in the late seventies early eighties era. When Hasbro and their team of
artists came up to the scene to create MLP, they really were trying to
go for an accurate look for the ponies; making them horsey realistic.
And granted it was supposed to be a cartoon at the same time, the match
up just didn't work out as they imagined it would be. Regarding to the
personalities, the series back then at the time was meant to be
showcased to little girls only. I mean, I'm pretty sure the team didn't
think that they would have male viewers, does that explain why all the
ponies liked playing, sparkles and all things bows and rainbows related?
As for voice acting, because it was just for little girls, Hasbro also
felt that since it would instantly be liked and adored anyway (cause all
girls love ponies, right?). So voice acting was not such a big deal,
though they did always have Sandy Duncan come in.
"The plots are terribly cliche and girly"
First
generation was about ponies living somewhere in a fantasy land faraway
with rainbows everywhere. Second generation turned out to be more of a
modernized era in the early nineties where the ponies now lived in city
and enjoyed ice cream and got perms. Hasbro was now coming out of their
monster fighting, pony eating-dragon era because parents deemed the show
to be too dark and violent for their little daughters at the time. This
was still during the time of MLP being only targeted to little girls,
because well.. I'm not so sure six year old boys at that time thought of
getting their manes permed and gossiping about a certain pegasister
having a bad botox sounded interesting, if anything I am sure it would only have left their minds puzzled. Majority of their stories at this time of the series
revolved around the same high school teenaged drama that is still being
shown today in movies. Diaries being stolen and used as black mail,
prom, some guy like a girl or vice versa, one girl pony-team versus
another girl pony-team.. yeah they were horribly cliche and girly. But
third generation's apple didn't fall very far from this tree either.
"The ponies suck because Lauren Faust didn't create them! They can all die in a fire!"
I'm
going to really have to control my temper as I type this out. I shall
refrain to the best of my abilities to prevent cuss words from leaking
out.. You can't say that the previous generations are garbage because
Ms. Faust didn't create them. And you can't say that they all suck
because they are not her creations to begin with. Ms. Faust created FIM
in a time where now children, tweens and adults of both genders take an
interest to anything they see on television that has something that grab
their attention. Especially, in a comment from a brony during a
convention who said it best; why the series is so popular due to, "the
show not being violent, having witty jokes and punchlines, each pony
having their own unique personality that attracts audiences and the fact
that the artwork is also beautiful". I believe this comment said it
best. Even though they are the same series, they are also very
completely different shows. G1 through G3 was super cheesy, up until G4
came along and actually planned out an actual story.
Let us also
not forget that had it not been for them, Lauren Faust would never have
thought of making Rainbow Dash based off the first daring Pegasus pony,
Firefly; with the appearance of G3's fashionista pony Rainbow Dash.
(Yes, G3 Rainbow Dash was actually an Earth pony and like Rarity, was
into fashion and made clothes.)
4. Aggressive Bronies to their Brony brethren and Pegasisters
Taking
a small step back to when I mentioned that the early MLP series were
only directed towards younger female viewers, today in this day and age,
now both genders of all ages can enjoy this series. Especially now,
that there is a growing number of male viewers, hence to them, the term
Brony came to be. Now I have no qualms that our male friends love the
MLP series, I think it's excellent! But I noticed that just as much as
our interest in all things pony related have made the brony communities,
it's also the same thing that is tearing it apart.
"G1
bronies keep rubbing their muzzles in our faces that they were the
first fans before us G4 's with their 'I liked it before it was cool'
belief"
Again this takes us back to how it was in the
eighties. Even though it was directed to be mostly viewed by little
girls, not all little girls did take interest to it. Perhaps it's the
idea that now MLP is now popular, many admirers feel that the first
generation was not appreciated as they felt it should have been (this is
my speculation). Such as the idea that how everyone felt G1 Twilight
was nothing special and her lines of "I wish, I wish" was stupid. Well,
G1 Twilight was supposed to be shy and playful; and now today she is the
proud mare mother of our dear Twilight Sparkle (if you don't believe
me, please watch 'Cutie Mark Chronicles' and 'Canterlot Wedding prt. 2')
That
seems to be the biggest one so far. Others just seem to be about men
coming out and saying they are bronies and that there is no problem with
it...when there was none to begin with?
5. Shippings/pairings of MLP character (Rainbow DashXALL OF THE WONDERBOLTS)
I
understand that there are LOTS of female characters mostly in the FIM
series. And there are hardly to rarely male characters that stand out
(other than Spike but he's no pony). I understand that it is quite a
popular thing to pair one's favorite male and female together and that
it has grown over the years, but it feels as though the pairings get
taken a bit too far.
6. Sexualization of our ponies.
This
here seems to speak for itself. MLP is a series meant to be at least in
a sense innocent. And while even though as one of the rules on the
internet: "If it exists, there is porn of it" it really seems to break
that friendly image that it is meant to be. But it's a children's show.
It is inappropriate, and I do not need to know that graphic images of
ponies turn you on. If you draw it, please keep it away. And out of
sight so the rest of us may enjoy MLP with clean images.

keep in mind that these are all just my opinions. If you have yours to

all just piling up in my mind and I needed to let them out.
(And
in case if anyone is wondering now, NO. I am not in any MLP groups,
communities or anything for that anymore. I dislike aggro-rude bronies
on there, so I will only just share them here and on my FB..and dA.)
